Support for life’s moments that feel unimaginable - and impossible to navigate.
I help individuals and families navigate the practical and emotional realities of serious illness and loss — offering steadiness, clarity, and peace as things unfold.
If you’ve found your way here, there’s a good chance you or a loved one is facing a serious diagnosis, a significant health change, or the early days after a sudden loss. Times like this can be incredibly hard to navigate, especially when everything feels urgent and emotionally heavy at the same time.
You may be trying to stay present with the people you love while also being pulled into a long list of responsibilities — things that can’t be ignored, even when you’re exhausted or grieving.
You might be facing questions like:
How do we navigate the healthcare system and make informed medical decisions?
What legal or financial matters need attention right now?
How do we talk with family members about what’s happening?
How do we move through this time in a way we can feel at peace with later?
That’s where I come in.
I work with individuals and families navigating serious illness or loss who want thoughtful, practical support through complex decisions and care. I help slow things down, bring structure to what feels overwhelming, and walk alongside you as you sort through what needs attention now and what can wait.
In moments like these, slowing down can feel impossible.
Yet, how you move through this time matters deeply.
This work is about helping you stay grounded and present, while also making sense of the healthcare, legal, financial, and personal realities you’re facing — so you’re not carrying it all alone, and not trying to figure it out all at once
If this sounds like where you are, you’re in the right place.
How We Work Together
I partner with individuals and families navigating serious illness, caregiving, or early loss. Each partnership is shaped by what you need — your circumstances, your priorities, and the realities you’re facing — not a preset process.
From the beginning, we focus on what needs attention now. Sometimes that means acting quickly; other times it means slowing down so you can think clearly and move with intention. Often, it’s both.
As we move through medical systems and practical responsibilities, I help carry the weight. I anticipate what’s ahead, prepare you for what’s coming, and take meaningful tasks off your plate — while ensuring the emotional integrity of this time is preserved. It’s easy for moments like these to become clinical and task-driven. Together, we ensure this time reflects what matters most to you and your family.
Together, we:
Identify priorities and take immediate action when something can’t wait.
Sort through complex decisions and difficult conversations, including healthcare, legal, financial, and family matters.
Anticipate next steps and prepare for what’s ahead.
This work blends practical leadership with compassion — so you can move through this time with clarity, presence, and care.
Create a clear, evolving plan that reflects your values and adapts as circumstances change.
About Me
I’m Katie Johnson — a nurse, an attorney, and someone people naturally turn to in moments of uncertainty.
Peace in Grief grew out of a deeply personal experience. While working as an in-house attorney, my best friend received the news no one is ever prepared for — there were no more treatment options. I walked alongside her and her husband as they navigated medical decisions, difficult conversations, and the practical realities of preparing for her death. During that time, I saw just how needed it is to have calm guidance, loving support, and someone who can help make sense of what feels overwhelming.
My background as both a nurse and an attorney gives me a strong foundation to help people navigate complex systems — but what truly shapes my work is care, compassion, and presence.
Outside of this work, I stay grounded through movement and time outdoors — running, cycling, traveling, and spending time with my husband, Steve, and our dog, Bernie. I’m a planner by nature, a lifelong learner, and someone who genuinely cares about showing up well for others.
The Blog
I write about living and dying well — and the role intention plays in both.
This blog explores illness, caregiving, planning, loss, and meaning — offering reflections you can return to whether you’re navigating something hard right now or thinking more intentionally about what matters most.
